What metals are used to build tanks and ships?

What kind of metals are used in military ships and tanks? Things like M-1 Abrams, Tiger, Nimitz class super carriers, etc. I want to make some models for a competition and want it to be as realistic as possible.

1. High tensile strength. Read the link. Drink lots of coffee first. It is not exciting stuff! Add depleted uranium to the mix in the Abrams. Buy a plastic model. It won't hurt you if you drop it!
2. The M-1 is made out of Chobham, RHA, steel encased depleted uranium mesh plating, the Tiger (I and II) has a 25–110 mm (0.98–4.3 in) steel plating, and the "Old Salt" [USS Nimitz (CVN-68)]'s materials are classified info, as in my bro don't know.
