metals???? does anyone know what the strongest metal is???
How do precious metals do in a recession? With the stock market not looking so good (depending what happens tmrw and the rest of the week) I was just wondering how do precious metals tend to do during a recession? Im talking about actual bullion not stocks in the precious metal industry.
What metals are used to build tanks and ships? What kind of metals are used in military ships and tanks? Things like M-1 Abrams, Tiger, Nimitz class super carriers, etc. I want to make some models for a competition and want it to be as realistic as possible.
What type of electronics have precious metals inside of them? I have an old Gameboy Advanced and a Gameboy SP. I was wondering if they have any precious metals in them. Is it only computers that have precious metals in them? I understand that trying to extract the precious metals out of electronics is dangerous, but I was just wondering.
What metals and gem stones are associated with the sea, in any culture? I am creating a character for a story, and I am designing a knife. So far I have a Laguiole (French) knife with a stylized flying fish instead of an insect, made of titanium with a mother of pearl handle carved with waves. In my mind it looks somewhat plain, and I was wondering what I could use to spice it up. BTW, the character is based off of the sea. If you wish to suggest stones, metals, or woods associated with any of the other elements (fire, air, earth are the ones I am using), go ahead.
How would the world be affected if precious metals became far more plentiful? Imagine that a new source of precious metals were discovered, from which they could be gathered so cheaply, and in such great quantities, that the prices of all precious metals per unit of mass were driven down to industrial-metal levels. How would this affect the world economy? What about businesses? How would it all adjust to such a great influx of historically rare commodities?
What better way to clean metals than by using emery paper? We did an experiment relating to the reactivity series, and it was important for the metals to be clean. We used emery paper to clean the metals. Is there a better way so we could improve our investigation? A way that wouldn't affect the metals later when they are reacted with different metal solutions?
What types of metals are in the new thermostat and the old thermostats? we are doing a project and we are comparing the difference between the metals in the old thermostats and the new thermostats. please only answer if you know for sure. we want to know a list of the metals in the old thermostats and a list of the metals in a new thermostat. thank-you!!!
How is it safe to have alkali metals in foods? Many everyday foods contain alkali metals, which are hiiiiiggghhhllllyyy reactive. If you put a small piece in water you can see quite the reaction. Does anyone have any specific examples of foods that contain ana lkali metal, and anyone know why its safe to eat them in those foods?
Why do some transition metals have a different ground state configuration? Why is it that certain transition metals have a ground state that does not fill the S orbital? For example Chromium is 4s1 3d5, instead of 4s2 3d4? What other transition metals does this exception apply to? And how does this correlate with valence electrons? More importantly, what other transition metals have this s1 configuration. I think Cu and Hg do as well.
What metals are harmful to your lungs when heated and inhaled? My grandpa's old wood pipe broke today. I am trying to make a new one. I can weld the metals together, I just need to know what types to stay away from. I know aluminum and copper are highly toxic, but what else should I look out for? I know I could just go buy one, but where's the excitement in that?
What cheap, light, durable, and easy to craft metals are there? I am considering making an HgSs DS out of metal, but that would need some nice cheap metals that are also durable, preferably light weight, and are easy to work with. I would need a silver coloured metal and a gold coloured metal Alright, looks like Aluminum will be used for the silver part, and a friend told me to try copper for the gold part Thanks for the input! If anybody else knows of any other cheap, easy to work with metals that are silver or gold in colour, then tell me!
How do you tell the difference between zinc and other magnetic metals such as aluminium? My pet bird might have zinc poisoning (results coming back next week) and until then I want to remove any toys which have zinc in them (some have metal clips for instance). I know some are stainless steel because they're not magnetic, but how do I distinguish between zinc and other metals, without actually destroying the toy? I don't want to have to remove all of his toys because he's so attached to them.
How do I plan an experiment to determine the reactivity of metals? I have an assignment, which is to design and plan an experiment to compare the reactivity of metals / halogens using salts of metals/ sodium halides. ( or any other suitable method ) Can anyone suggest a simple experiment with a rather simple setup? Kindly name all reagents and equipment used. :)Also, I need to describe what happens in each step of the experiment. Could anyone help me out? PS: What are sodium halides? Just wondering. Thanks! Are all metals magnetic? Like, if there was this gigantic magnet above all metal samples which would not move? I mean, which metallic element or mixed metal alloy would not stick to the gigantic magnet? Would paint (acrylic or just regular paint) covering the metal samples affect it magnetability? I do mean, all of the metals and metalloids in the existing periodic table. Oh, so what metals are not magnetic then? And is there any difference in magneticability between staineless steel and steel? Are these metals just "not magnetic enough" or are they "not magnetic at all"?
What is the final temp of the combined metals? A sheet of gold weighing 10.0g and at a temperature of 18.0 degrees celcius is placed flat on a sheet of iron weighing 20.0g and at a temperature of 55.6 degrees celcius. What is the final temperature of the combined metals? Assume that no heat is lost to the surroundings. Could you show step by step on how to do it. Please and thank you.
How can I tell the difference between recyclable metals? I can easily tell what copper and brass are, but sometimes I get confused about aluminum and stainless steel. Sometimes i find old pieces of lead that I mistake for aluminum. What tips are there to positively tell metals apart? ( I don't always trust that guy at the scrapyard, either).
What are some common applications of metals? Also, for every application, what properties of that metal make it suitable for that particular use? And where can these metals be found? As in, what are their sources? In addition, what are some problems encountered in using metals, and what are the solutions to these problems?
How can I sort out different metals? I have a big bag of small pieces of metal. I am most interested in finding out which ones are aluminium, but would also like to identify the other metals. I have already sorted the pieces by magneticism. What else can I do?
How do you take out fingerprints from fingerprint magnet metals? i know the question sounds weird but do you notice those metals that could easily be imprinted by your fingerprints? the shiny metals that could easily be marked by fingerprints? i noticed that you cant just wipe the fingerprints out because it'll be replaced by wipe marks.. how do i get the metal to look flawless and shiny?
what metals react with hydrogen peroxide to produce fumes? My partner and I have a lab experiment on monday where we have to test different metals to see their reaction with Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2). The catch is we have to know if the metals react before we test. I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to find a list or anything. Can anybody help?
How many metals change color with Oxygen? I know of several metals that change color when mixed with Oxygen, such as Iron, which turns red, Copper, which turns green, and Cobalt, which turns blue. Just out of curiosity, are there other metals that change color with Oxygen?
What are the disadvantages of recycling metals? if anyone hav an answer like "there are no disadvantages of metals"...then kindly dont even bother to answer because there is nothing in this world which does not have disadvantages...i want that person to answer who actually has some knowledge or is a good searcher Thanks!
What are the electrical properties of metals, ceramics and polymers by analyzing their structure? I know the obvious stuff that metals conduct anr ceramics can be semiconductors but i failed to find the explanation from their structure And i also want to know how to compare the melting points and the hardness of ceramics and polymers analyzing their structure. Also to finish this annoing subject i need to compare the densities of metals, ceramics and polymers refering to their structure.
